TSAI Yi-Chin
PRESENTS
From Autumn to Winter
Screening

TSAI Yi-Chin is a Taiwan-born, Helsinki-based visual artist and filmmaker working across analog film, experimental animation, and mixed media. Through handcrafted processes, including under-camera animation techniques and alternative darkroom processes, she creates films and installations that meditate on impermanence, seasonal rhythms, and human experience. She holds the Erasmus Joint Master in Animation (Re:Anima), completed across Aalto University, LUCA School of Arts, and Universidade Lusófona. Her works have been presented internationally at film festivals and exhibitions across Europe, Asia, and the United States.

From Autumn to Winter is a video work reflecting on change, loss, and renewal through the quiet rhythm of Nordic seasons. Created through camera-less exposure on 35mm and 16mm film, local plants are placed directly onto the film surface, generating images through phytogram processes, photogram and mordançage chemical etching. These handmade techniques allow organic materials to leave physical traces on the emulsion, merging intention with chance. Through gradual shifts in light, color, and texture, the work unfolds at a restrained pace, inviting viewers to attend to subtle transformation and to reflect on impermanence, the passage of time, and nature’s enduring cycles.
