Johannes Gierlinger
PRESENTS
Every Epoch Dreams the Next
Screening

Starting with an excerpt from an Albanian Feature film from the communist era of Albania, in which a boy dreams of the construction of a modern city, ’Every Epoch Dreams the Next’ revolves around the historical and current transformation processes of the urban space. The film reflects on the power of images, historical and contemporary utopias, and how power structures can override the common good and the general public.

In his work, Johannes Gierlinger explores forms of remembrance and collective memory, as well as perspectives on resistance. In essayistc form, he examines how visual and narrative structures continue to have an effect and remain visible, interwoven, and experiential in the present, and, not least, raises questions about possible future spaces. He showed his work at national and international film festivals & institution, among others Visions Du Réel Nyon (CH), EMAF Osnabrück (DE), CPH:DOX (DK), IMPAKT Festival (NL), ZINEBI Bilbao (ESP), Belvedere21 (AT), Museum der Moderne Salzburg (AT), Bienal de Artes Mediales de Santiago (CL), Edinburgh IFF (GB), Kassel Dokfest (DE), rotor Graz (AT), Diagonale Graz (AT). He lives and works in Vienna.
