Julia Sand
presents
Oh, hi!
Children's programme

Julia Sand is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in the Helsinki region. Working across digital and interactive media, she experiments with new media and interactive technologies through a playful and exploratory approach. Her work invites audiences to engage with art in unexpected ways, exploring new and surprising forms of interaction between the spectator and the artwork. Drawing on her background in graphic and interaction design, she combines thoughtful visual aesthetics with interactive experiences. Often inspired by contemporary themes, her projects examine the present through a surreal and futuristic lens.

When is something alive, and when is it not? We are finely attuned to detect the difference between a still object and something that seems to have a mind of its own. Does aliveness emerge from intentional movement, repetition, or symmetry? Throughout history, recognizing agency has been vital. This artwork explores that threshold, mimicking behavior to evoke intention in creatures made purely of light—forms that appear alive, yet possess neither body nor mind.
