The _mediaklub group is based on the idea of an open visual and sound environment, the creation of which, at any stage, can be joined by members of the Ukrainian community of new media — Photinus. Thus, at different times musicians, artists, programmers, and, by way of exception, the robot GAIA joined the group. This principle of openness determines the use of different media during the performances, from the sound itself to video mapping, and also became the key to sustainability — the constant interaction between the participants, which does not depend on external circumstances.
_mediaklub’s performances and installations have been shown internationally at daadgalerie (DE), NAMU (UA), Kyiv Biennial (PL), Mystetskyi Arsenal (UA), Fridman Gallery (US), Rijksakademie (NL), and beyond.
‘Rehearsal of the Victory Day Gig’ is a networked audiovisual performance by _mediaklub, developed from online meetings that helped the group stay together during lockdown and, later, during Russia’s war against Ukraine. When Max Robotov joined the Ukrainian Army, while others were separated by cities, countries, and time zones, this format became a way to remain close and continue working. Delays, glitches, and interruptions that once made collective music-making almost impossible became the structure of the work. The performance is built around Max’s voice from the front line, his commands, and the attempt to play together through unstable connection and distance.
Participants: Daria Maiier, Georgiy Potopalskiy, Max Robotov, Ivan Svitlychnyi, Dmytro Tentiuk, Anna Ivchenko, Pavlo Hunko.
